How Music Fits Into the Pirate Adventure

Be a Pirate! music has a special place in an adventure that also uses voiced captain stories to give its battles personal stakes. Every stronghold you defend belongs to someone in your crew. Listen to the narration as you fight—the campaign connects those defenses to missing crewmates, old debts, and grudges against the Crown.

The Windows strategy game pairs its pirate setting with a darker supernatural story. The Crimson Expanse faces soldiers and Crown Sloops alongside undead commanders and creatures from the deep. That gives the adventure a broader tone than a lighthearted voyage about treasure and pirate swagger.

The Crown’s campaign against your crew involves a bargain with an ancient power. As the fighting continues, dead garrison commanders return to their posts, and admirals emerge from the depths changed into something less than human. The Drowned Lieutenant commands the dead, while a Leviathan threatens a captive crew. These encounters carry the story beyond a straightforward clash between pirates and a navy.

Your crew includes 15 recruitable Pirate Captains, each with permanent bonuses and a connection to the story. The active captain accompanies your ship into battle, while voiced narration develops the reasons behind the fighting. English has full audio support, so the spoken storytelling is part of the experience for English-speaking players.

Several campaign achievements attach names and objectives to those personal battles. Find the Quartermaster requires beating Rogue's Rest and rescuing Scarlet Wench. Saltmother's Eye takes you through Driftmark Shoal, where you learn what the Crown is hunting. At Lashlight Key, Won't Stay Dead marks a battle in which Quartermaster Voss gets back up. Follow the dialogue through these encounters to keep track of the crew’s developing story.

Other milestones center on bringing your people home and commanding them in battle. Foolish. Brave. requires beating Marrow Cay and bringing the Stinky Rose home. Recruiting all 15 captains earns Red Raine's Rogues. For Home Waters, win on Captain with that map’s own captain commanding your ship; Every Captain's Tale requires a victory on Captain with each of the 15 captains in command.

Audio Features and Listening Tips

The game supports stereo sound and custom volume controls. Use those controls to find a comfortable listening level before settling into a campaign session.

Keep these practical points in mind:

  • Give the captain narration your attention. Battles reveal why particular strongholds and captured crewmates matter to your crew.
  • Keep your eyes on both attack routes. Crownsmen advance over land while Crown Sloops travel through the water during the same waves. Watch both lanes while listening to the story.
  • Check the volume controls before using background audio. Set the game’s sound to a level that lets you follow its English dialogue comfortably.

The battlefield changes as you build: land enemies reroute around your structures, while the river follows a fixed course. A Bridge creates another route for land movement across the water, but Crown Sloops still pass underneath it. Check both routes after changing your layout. Elevation also affects tower placement and results, so include terrain height in your decisions while following the captain’s narration.

Mid-battle upgrades add another demand on your attention. Each tower has four upgrade tracks: Offense, Range, a tower-specific Specialty, and a unique Signature ability. Doubloons pay for those upgrades during a match, and the towers change both visually and functionally as they grow. Match damage types to enemy resistances and weaknesses: Physical, Fire, Ice, Electric, and Poison all matter. Keep watching enemy movement while choosing upgrades and listening to dialogue.

For the Windows game developed by Noble Rogues and published by Red Raine Productions, open the Be a Pirate! Steam page. The adventure centers on defending the Crimson Expanse, rescuing your captains, and commanding towers across land and sea.
