How to Earn Drake's Port Raleigh Achievement

Cap'n Drake has a specific reason to take the helm for the final battle. The Be a Pirate! Cap'n Drake achievement, Let's Find My Queen, requires you to win at Port Raleigh with him in command. Make that captain choice part of your preparation before tackling the finale.

The requirement centers on your commanding captain and the battle you win. Recruiting Drake alone doesn't fulfill it: he needs to lead your victory at Port Raleigh.

Before entering the fight:

  1. Choose Cap'n Drake as your active captain.
  2. Prepare your captain's equipment and upgrades.
  3. Win the final battle at Port Raleigh.

The active captain accompanies your ship into battle. Across the roster, there are 15 recruitable captains, each with permanent bonuses and upgrade paths, so captain selection is part of your combat preparation as well as achievement hunting.

The Captain's Compass has 266 nodes, with achievements marking several milestones along the way:

  • True North: Unlock your first node in the Captain's Compass.
  • Chart a Course: Unlock 50 Compass nodes.
  • Keystone: Unlock a Keystone in the Captain's Compass.
  • Take the Helm: Unlock the Helm at the heart of the Compass.
  • Every Point of the Compass: Unlock all 266 Compass nodes.

Prepare for Attacks on Land and Water

With Drake commanding, build your defense around the game's two simultaneous threats: marching Crownsmen and Crown Sloops traveling along the river.

Cover both routes before concentrating your spending on one front. Land enemies change their route around your construction, while the river follows a fixed course. Stretch the march with deliberate placement, but keep enough firepower covering the water to handle vessels.

Bridges let land units cross water, but Crown Sloops pass underneath them. Use a bridge to shape the land route; keep dedicated coverage on the river itself.

Your tower choices include:

  • Cannon: A straightforward attacking tower.
  • Voodoo Cauldron: A source of poison damage.
  • Heliograph Battery: A tower built around a focused beam.
  • The Commodore's Flag: A support structure that increases nearby damage.

Match damage types to enemy resistances and weaknesses. Physical, Fire, Ice, Electric, and Poison all matter, so avoid pouring your entire defense into an element that an approaching threat resists.

Spend midbattle Doubloons on the weakness currently costing you ground. Towers have four upgrade tracks: Offense, Range, Specialty, and Signature. Check coverage before buying more range, and consider the tower's distinctive upgrades alongside raw damage.

Terrain elevation also affects tower placement and results, with the effect depending on the tower and the land's height. Consider elevation alongside route coverage when deciding where to build. Towers change visibly and functionally as you upgrade them, and each tower's Signature ability changes how it fights.

Tower investment has its own achievement targets. Fully Rigged requires buying all 20 battle upgrades for a single tower. Gem-Studded requires raising a tower to Gem Level 10, while Polished to Perfection requires Gem Level 20. Master Armorer extends that goal to every tower.

Other Achievements to Target With Drake

Choose Captain difficulty if you also want to pursue the finale's difficulty achievements during Drake's run:

  • The Admiral's Last Stand: Win the final battle at Port Raleigh on Captain.
  • Untouchable: Complete that final battle on Captain without your ship taking damage.
  • Every Captain's Tale: Win a battle on Captain with each of the 15 captains commanding.

For Untouchable, prioritize stopping threats before they reach your ship. A victory with damage taken still meets Drake's stated achievement condition, but the damage-free achievement requires a clean defense throughout the battle.

Port Raleigh also has objectives tied to its enemies:

  • No Kings. No Chains.: Defeat Crown Admiral Voth Kraaz at Port Raleigh and free the Crimson Expanse.
  • Not One Step Further: Kill Crown Admiral Voth Kraaz before he reaches the halfway line.
  • Kraken Wrangler: Defeat the Kraken twice in a single Endless run at Port Raleigh.

Keep the campaign finale and Endless objectives separate when planning your run. Drake's achievement requires a final-battle victory with him commanding; Kraken Wrangler specifically requires two Kraken defeats within one Endless run. Across the wider campaign, Captain of the Crimson Expanse requires beating all 15 maps on Captain.
